Grants & Awards
The H&SA is proud of its tradition of
providing grants and awards to our schools and students.
These items serve as extras that enrich the school
experience for our children.
School Wish Lists
At the end of June, the H&SA
gives our three public schools a check to be applied to
that individual school’s particular “wish list”. The
amount of the check depends on how successful our
fundraising efforts have been throughout the year.
These may be items that are outside of the regular
school budget. Some past "Wish List" items included
Smartboards, musical instruments, laptops, and digital
cameras.
Scholarship
From
the very beginnings of the H&SA, scholarship aid to
MLHS students wishing to continue their education has
been a primary focus of the organization. That
tradition continues today as H&SA proudly awards
scholarship grants to MLHS seniors. Recipients and the
amount of the individual grants are determined by the
Scholarship Committee based on the findings of the
College Scholarship Service in Princeton.
High School Grammar Books
Every freshman entering Mountain
Lakes High School receives a gift of
The
Little, Brown Essential
Handbook for Writers by Jane Aaron. This handbook answers
questions about the writing process, grammar,
punctuation, document design, research writing, and
documentation. The H&SA provides a grant to the
high school to purchase these books for every incoming
freshman class. Students have been known to reference
their handbook for years, even beyond high
school.
High School Volunteer Award
This award is presented annually to a
high school junior who has exhibited the spirit of
volunteerism and who has dedicated him/herself to
helping others in need.
Project Graduation
Project Graduation is an all-night,
alcohol and drug free celebration for the MLHS
graduating class. The event provides a fun-filled
evening, with non-stop activities, food, and prizes.
The H&SA is proud to support this event for our
seniors with a generous grant every year.
Wildwood Art Room
Each year, the Wildwood art teacher
selects three outstanding works of art created by
students the previous year. These students are honored
at the Wildwood Back to School Night, and their artwork
is framed, mounted, or otherwise prepared for display
in the Wildwood Art Gallery, located in the main hall,
near the office. The H&SA supports the achievement
of these students by paying for the professional
framing of their artwork.
