Family Programs
The
H&SA sponsors family programs and conducts entertaining
family nights for our school children and their families.
Support from our fundraisers allow us to sponsor these
programs and events. We welcome volunteers to help plan and
run these events. Highlights of our programs and past
family nights include:
Helping Hands
The
Helping Hand Safety House program, a
national program, was adopted in Mountain Lakes in the
1970's and continues today. It is designed to help children
who may be in need of assistance while out walking in the
neighborhood. To designate a home as a Safety House for
children, volunteers are asked to display the Helping Hand
placard in their front window whenever they are home. Local
school children are instructed to seek out a marked Safety
House whenever they are lost, injured, or approached by a
stranger. The H&SA solicits the volunteers for Safety
Houses, maintains a list of all Safety Houses in the
neighborhood, distributes placards, and publishes
information about the program to all school children.
Bingo Nights
Suspense, excitement, and prizes, who
doesn't like bingo? This all-time favorite event is
conducted three times a year at Wildwood. Sign up early as
these nights are often "sold out!"
Wildwood Jazz
This
wonderful evening of entertainment for Wildwood parents was
hosted in 2005. The Wildwood Cafeteria was transformed into
a Jazz Cafe, where Wildwood's own Joao Goncalvez performed
with his jazz band. Coffee and confections donated by local
businesses made the event even more
special.
The People Garden
In
2004, Wildwood Cultural Arts hosted an evening of theater
in the High School Auditorium, where a touring performance
troupe of children performed for our children. Over the
years, one or more students from Wildwood have been members
of this acclaimed troupe. This performance uses humor and
real-life situations to teach lessons about anti-bullying,
sharing and caring.
