The Making of The Bulletin
Approximately 2000 copies of The Bulletin are printed each month. They are mailed to every Mountain Lakes household and to the households of Boonton Township students attending MLHS. Copies are also made available to teachers and staff at our schools and the Borough Hall. The publication is created by the H&SA Bulletin Chair and his or her committee. With the aid of the committee, the Bulletin Chair sorts, acknowledges, proofs and corrects submissions to The Bulletin from the schools, the Board of Education, various H&SA committees and chairs, Borough departments and agencies, and community organizations. The Chair then compiles a proof to be sent to an outside, professional graphic artist for layout. A final proofing of the layout is required before printing, and timely delivery to the post office for mailing must be assured. In order to ensure accuracy of The Bulletin, a group of dedicated proofreaders scrutinize each page, finding and reporting any errors.

The Evolution of The Bulletin
The
Bulletin began in
the spring of 1958 as just that, a bulletin or memo, that
was written by the H&SA's Publicity Chair. It was
basically a one-page calendar of events "supplemented by
notes of special importance." During the 1959-1960
school year, it became a monthly publication, and in the
spring of 1960, the bulletin was expanded to two pages; the
calendar of upcoming events and a one page newsletter from
the Board of Education. Through the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s and
1990s, the bulletin became The
Bulletin and
gradually grew in scope and content, adding more school and
community news to its growing page count. In the early
2000s, The
Bulletin and The
Borough, a
newsletter previously published by the municipality,
merged. This recent step made The
Bulletin what it
is today -- a sixty+ page magazine full of news, notices,
announcements, calendars and all types of information about
our schools, our borough, and our H&SA.
