The mission of the H&SA is to enrich education and facilitate communication among the schools, homes and the community. The H&SA fulfills its mission by providing the schools with a wide variety of programs, services, grants and publications. Volunteerism is at the heart of everything we do. History

Programs and Events

The H&SA plans, organizes, staffs and funds many different types of programs and events. We run information sharing programs for the parents and community. We organize in-school programs and after school events including Family Bingo Nights, book festivals and Popcorn Fridays. We host recognition events, and co-sponsor many school activities by contributing funds and volunteers, including Field Days, Project Graduation, school dances and others. Learn more.

Volunteering

The H&SA organizes volunteers for school chairs, class parents, library aids, book festival chairs and many others. Learn more.

Fundraising

The H&SA raises funds for arts in the schools, school library programs, programs for parents and students, and scholarships. All of our funds are used to fulfill our mission -- to enrich the school experience for our children, and to keep the community informed. Learn more.

Grants

The H&SA gives several college scholarships each year, and also contributes to special school purchases such as SmartBoards for the classroom, sponsored field trips, classroom computers, science labs, grammar books, and musical instruments. Learn more.

Publications

The H&SA publishes The Bulletin monthly, containing the latest news on the schools and community. We publish the annual Mountain Lakes Public Schools Handbook, containing school policies. We also publish a student directory for Wildwood, Briarcliff and the High School. Learn more.

History

The H&SA was established by Mountain Lakes parents over fifty years ago to serve as a liaison group and a communications vehicle between the homes and the schools, as well as to provide service to the schools. The group’s original focus of granting scholarships to Mountain Lakes’ students expanded over the decades to include in-school programs, program meetings of interest to the general public, annual events, and creation of several publications.

A Look Ahead

Throughout the year and from year to year, H&SA augments its programs and services to meet any new needs of the schools, the Board of Education and the community, that are consistent with our mission and goals. New volunteer opportunities open up, general program meetings are scheduled to address important and timely issues, publications are enhanced and programs or fundraisers are added.
